State Aid Intern

Program Office/Description: 

The State Aid Office is responsible for the calculation, payment,verification, and projection of over $35 billion in state aid, distributed annually
to school districts and BOCES in support of public elementary and secondary education in °ÄÃÅÌØÂëÍõ. Data is currently collected from
over 700 school districts and 37 BOCES via the State Aid Management System (SAMS), a custom web-based software system.
Office responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Researching data outliers for the Legislature, Governor, Bureau Chief, and others, to ensure data and aid payments and/or projections are
accurate;
Developing and implementing guidelines and procedures to assist school districts and BOCES;
Completing claim verification projects to ensure accuracy of data and clarity of guidance;
Providing technical assistance to school administrators and other agency staff based on aid formulas, payment formulas, statutes and
regulations;
Reviewing enacted legislation and determining appropriate action related to aid calculations and payments;
Preparing reports using a variety of software tools for transmission to school districts and BOCES, NYS agencies and SED offices;
Using SAMS to perform the annual review of school district claim submissions to ensure reasonability of data for use in aid calculations and
projections, payments, and reporting;

The Assignment (Description of Job): 

We assume the intern will be directly engaged in the following activities and assignments:
- Assisting in the review of enacted legislation, including legislation regarding zero emission buses.Ìý
- Assisting in recommendations related to enacted legislation.
- Assisting in the review of web content for State Aid websites.ÌýÌý

Hours worked each week will be flexible and decided with supervisor.

Paid Internship Hourly Rates: 

Undergraduate students will be paid $15/hour and graduate students will be paid $18/hour. For all offices located in NYC or Westchester, Suffolk, or Nassau Counties, undergraduate students will be paid $16.00/hour and graduate students will be paid $19.00/hour.
