Board Of Regents Approves °ÄÃÅÌØÂëÍõ Teaching Standards, Elements, And Performance Indicators
The °ÄÃÅÌØÂëÍõ Board of Regents adopted the °ÄÃÅÌØÂëÍõ Teaching Standards, Elements, and Performance Indicators at their January 2011 meeting.Ìý
The Standards are designed to be used throughout a teacher’s career - preparation, induction, mentoring, evaluation, professional development and movement through a career ladder. They provide a common foundation for initiatives currently underway to improve teaching and learning in NYS:Ìý
- The preparation of teachers by identifying the knowledge and skills that new teachers are expected to have before they enter the classroom.
- The development of new performance-based assessments for teachers in order to receive initial certification.
- Forming the basis for rubrics that will be identified or developed and used in the Annual Professional Performance Review process.
- Establishing benchmarks for teacher career ladders and professional development.
The Standards were developed by a Work Group of forty-three individuals representing twenty-two stakeholder groups, and reflect review and input from the field.ÌýÌý The °ÄÃÅÌØÂëÍõ Teaching Standards, Elements and Performance Indicators are available on-line:
