Departing Regents Members Honored for Their Service
NYS Senate and Assembly leaders joined Chancellor Merryl H. Tisch and Board of Regents members in honoring three departing Regents at their final meeting on March 17. Assemblywoman Catherine Nolan, (D-Queens), Chair of the Assembly Education Committee, and Assemblywoman Deborah Glick, (D-Manhattan) presented the Regents with resolutions recognizing their years of service. Chancellor Emeritus Robert Bennett departs the Board after representing the VII Judicial District in Western New York for 20 years, seven of which he served as Chancellor. Regent James Dawson has served on the Board since 1993, representing the IV Judicial District of Northern New York. During that time, he visited everyÌýschool district and school building in his judicial district. Regent Harry Phillips III retires from the Board after nearly 15 years representing the IX Judicial District in New York's Westchester Region. Regent Phillips is a World War II veteran and a Harvard graduate. He focused on protecting the public while ensuring professional integrity in the professions. Senator John Flanagan, (R-Suffolk County), Chair of the Senate Education Committee, also thanked Bennett, Dawson and Phillips for their dedicated service.
