Indigenous Education Commissioner's Advisory Council

Indigenous Education Commissioner's Advisory Council

Commissioner Betty A. Rosa convened the state's first Indigenous Education Commissioner’s Advisory Council in 2022. The council, comprised of representatives of the federally and state-recognized Indigenous Nations with government-to-government relationships with the state of New York, advises the commissioner and department on educational matters regarding Indigenous students and communities. The council also serves as a gathering place to share ideas, develop new initiatives, and ensure that all Indigenous students have access to educational and social emotional-programs to support college and career readiness.

The Council's most recent conference in November 2024 involved reviewing, discussing, and building upon the 1975 Statement of Policy and Proposed Action by the Regents of the University of the State of New York on Native American EducationÌýto address modern educational and Nation concerns and issues.Ìý
